1. Presentation of the institution’s innovation strategy

Intesa Sanpaolo is among the top banking groups in the euro zone and the leader in Italy in all business areas (retail, corporate, and wealth management). The Group offers its services to 11.1 million customers through a network of more than 4,100 branches well distributed throughout the country with market shares no lower than 13% in most Italian regions. Intesa Sanpaolo has a selected presence in Central Eastern Europe and Middle Eastern and North African areas with approximately 1,200 branches and 8.2 million customers belonging to the Group's subsidiaries operating in commercial banking in 12 countries. Moreover, an international network of specialists in support of corporate customers spreads across 28 countries, in particular in the Middle East and North Africa and in those areas where Italian companies are most active, such as the United States, Brazil, Russia, India and China.

In 2014 Intesa Sanpaolo has brought together all the initiatives for the open innovation sector within the Innovation Center, which is responsible Maurizio Montagnese - Group’s Chief Innovation Officer. The Innovation Center is in charge of :

  • Searching and analysing innovative solutions on the national and international market.
  • Defining the guidelines and policies on Group's innovation.
  • Managing, through the Innovation Agenda, innovation initiatives and the related investments.Building a network of relations with companies, start-ups, incubators, research centres, universities and other local entities.
  • Disseminating the culture of innovation within the Group, supporting and managing specific project phases.

2. Main initiatives with Fintech companies

The Innovation Center of Intesa Sanpaolo collaborates with some international Incubator and Accelerator programs, focused on London, Singapore, Tel Aviv, New York and every countries that are good fields for fintech and innovation topics. These projects, like Accenture Fintech Lab, Startupbootcamp Fintech/Insurtech e The Floor, supported by partnerships with University and Institutions, permit to explore the global innovation ecosystem. Furthermore, Intesa Sanpaolo supports innovative startups through his Venture Capital Funds.

3. Focus on Fintech collaboration

Intesa Sanpaolo is collaborating with Market Wall, a platform that provides high-quality financial research and content for investors, information providers, finance portals and media. More partnerships are envolving with fintech startups through proof of Concepts that are been developing.
